Below are our answers to some of the most common questions we get from prospective
dance students.
What levels do you teach?
SenSalsa offers four levels of instruction
for beginner, improvers, intermediate and advanced students as described above under
class levels.
Do I need a partner to take lessons?
No. Most students come without a partner and
we encourage partner rotation as the fastest way to improve your lead/follow techniques.
Do I need special shoes?
For your first month of class you should wear a basic shoe
with a low heel (ladies) and guys a flat leather bottom. As long as the sole of the
shoe is smooth to allow for turns. Dance shoes are recommended for Intermediate and
Advanced levels.
Should I take private classes or group classes?
SenSalsa offers
private lessons at either your place, our place or at a *dance studio. (*Studio hire
costs are additional and are payable by the student at the time of lesson).
Many
people interested in salsa classes call and ask for private classes. In order to
save our students money we like to advise the following: Come to a setting that is
not "nightclub" oriented to learn your basics first.
Take at least 3-4 group classes
and then if you really want to take private classes you will have the basis to work
from. You will also be able to pinpoint areas that you want to work on that you may
be having trouble grasping in a group setting. This way you get more value for money.
For those of you who are on the shy side and do not want to learn basics in front
of anyone else, or for those of you who want 1-on-1 personal attention only, then
private classes are definitely the right choice.
“'Passion is sometimes stronger than ones capabilities hence, respect all who embark
on this salsa journey whether they are below or above you in their strengths as a
dancer. Their passion may be just as strong as yours.' – Orville
